This does not mean anyone should be deterred from transitioning.Any individual that feels trapped in the body of the wrong gender will attest to the emotional turmoil they can experience. Looking one way, yet feeling another is a difficult burden for anyone to endure. Transitioning should start as soon as an individual has established that they do indeed need to transition, and the smaller steps that will be necessary before full gender reassignment can be started to speed up the process. The process is of course, different for male to female than it is from female to male. The first step always starts with the issue of body hair removal, however, especially with male to female. No matter how feminine a biological male looks or sounds, the presence of too much body hair is always the main problem. Genetic males simply have more hair, and this hair is most apparent on the face and necklike. While biological women can also struggle with facial and body hair it is generally less heavy and less thick with a slower hair growth. “Five o’clock” shadow for male to female transitioning is a well-known problem.
Laser hair removal is generally recommended as it is a more permanent solution. It is also less aggravating to the skin and leaves a smooth, feminine appearance. The newer technologies have advanced this type of treatment to the point that shaving and waxing procedures are becoming obsolete, especially in transitioning from male to female. Males may also have a great deal more hair on their arms, chest, and even backs and buttocks than females, so complete and more permanent hair removals are preferred in order not to get stuck in a constant need to shave or wax. Females to male may also need laser hair removal as more males now are hair free throughout their bodies. It is a look that has seen an uptick in trends over the years and shows no sign of slowing down. Laser hair removal is not a magic pill, however, and depending upon the thickness of the hair and the body part, may take more than 6-8 sessions for complete removal. Advice from a great laser technician is needed. There are other types of hair removal treatments too and a plan for the treatment might include one or more types. This plan should be discussed fully before treatment begins.
Laser hair removal is not the only consideration although generally the first when transitioning.Body sculpting also plays a role in successful transitioning. There are many body types, in both females and males. Successful transitioning also involves having a body that is proportionate to the gender to which someone is transitioning. Body sculpting techniques remove fat from one part of the body. If necessary, this fat can then be introduced into another part of the body. A male who is transitioning from a very heavy V-shape into a female can use body sculpting to remedy this problem, and have excess belly fat removed, defining the waist, and even inserted then into the buttocks, giving a more feminine form. Breasts can be enhanced in this manner also if a male to female transitioning patient is happy to forgo breast implants and would just be happy with some breast matter. Females that are transitioning to males of course, will want slimmer hips, and less breast mass, and body sculpting assists them in transitioning also. There are several different types of both male and female body shapes and we will get into these in another post as there are many that can be discussed and the approach to each.
In the meantime, body sculpting entails two major methodologies: warm sculpting and cold.Warm sculpting techniques involve as you might imagine the use of heat to warm fat, and then remove it, while cold sculpting techniques freeze the fat before it is removed. Warm sculpting is gentler and quicker overall and is preferred by many spas and aestheticians, however, individuals themselves sometimes prefer the cold sculpting. The reason for this is unknown generally and again a consultation with a good spa technician should ensue before any type of body modifications or fat removal processes take place. Warm sculpting is generally preferred as it can be applied to any body part. The amounts removed should be advised by the aesthetician, but warm sculpting has general advantages over the cold sculpting method.
This is by no means a comprehensive list of procedures and services needed for transitioning. It is simply a good start, as the minor procedures and services can be tackled first, thereby eliminating the feeling of being overwhelmed by the entire process. Transitioning takes time, effort, and commitment. Good spas and great technicians can assist any individual that is in transition with the more minor aspects in a timely and thorough manner. Getting started on the processes will alleviate some of the stress and emotionality involved in transitioning as like with everything else that is difficult, starting a process is clearly a step forward in the right direction.
